Breakup Letter
Dear digital calipers,
It has been a while since we last spoke. I haven’t been able to rely on you recently.
This part of the world just isn’t made for you. The imperial system requires fractions in between inches. I can’t keep up this guessing game when you give me a decimal, instead of a fraction.
Don’t get me wrong, you are amazing at the metric system. But even so, I know the original measurements were made in inches here in America, and I like my measurements as exact as possible.
It’s not you, it's me, and my perfectionism.
I think we should talk about an open relationship because...there's someone else. Their name is Ruler.
They don’t rely on anything and aren't over-engineered. They are simple and perfect, which makes them reliable.
But Ruler can't do everything you do. Ruler can't measure arbitrary measurements the way you do.
I still need you, but we can't be exclusive. I hope we can move forward in our relationship in this way.
Sincerely, your lover, Gian Morris-Perez
